Session Six: Library Thing

I love it! I have joined up for early reviewer and member giveaways (ebooks for review) and will certainly continue to use.

Session Six Del.ici.ous

Wow! I love this. What a great concept. I could be on the net forever with this... well, except for eating, sleeping, work, oh yeah - and the family. This would have to be my favourite of all the web 2.0 tools so far.

Session Five Wikis

Well, I've done it... but am still not 100% convinced of the value of something that anyone can alter. Mindst you I can see the inherent value for use in the library service as a publicity device.

Session Four

Well, I did this a week ago and went on hols so am only now getting to the blog part. I can see the allure of podcasts and video on the net but... I find it frustrating if it takes too long to load the videos - you get visual but lose the audio which kind of negates the purpose.

I think they could be used as great marketing tools, though. I know that a number of public libraries (particularly in the states) podcast their activity sessions... can't get to preschool storytime because the kids are sick? Fine, download the podcast. Although it's a way of advertising without paying upfront advertising costs, staff time to maintain and update would need to be taken into consideration.

I added two video links into this blog because I couldn't choose between them... and RSS feeds to bloglines. I even updated my avatar the other night from home!

Photos from Flickr to blog

Hmpph! Could not get this to work - even with Bernie's help...

Session Three: Flickr

Well, it's done. I've uploaded photos... added tags and descriptions and even "picniked" one of them. So far so good...

Getting a bit adventurous...

Yay! I did it. Worked out how to get my avatar into this blog. I am so proud of myself.

Session Two: RSS feeds

Wow... well I am getting there. I now have a blog on blogline as well as this one. I have subscribed to the following: ABC news, boing boing, UK guardian book reviews etc, unshelved, drop-in titles by unshelved and nyt books.

This was an interesting session and I didn't have any problems completing it... except I got confused about which blog I was supposed to be using to do my feedback! I'm assuming it's this one since the other one isn't public - should it be?

I can see the value of RSS feeds but have to admit that outside of checking it for these training sessions I probably wouldn't use it - I just don't have the time! For us in library land I think that the RSS feeds which cover libraries and book reviews would be useful, but again the problem is finding the time to actually sit down and access the information.

Session One: Well, I have had fun trying to create an avatar but managed to save it to my yahoo account rather than transferring it over, oh well! At least I tried - and it sure was fun.

Finally!

Well, I've finally managed to get started on this... am feeling some trepidation about what this training will involve but look forward to getting familiar with it all.

And, in case you're wondering about the name? Well, we have a much loved, spoilt (and quite old now) cat who is called, surprise, surprise Tigger. Since she's managed to survive the arrival of children in the family I figure that she deserves to be spoilt... it was a nasty surprise for her to discover that no, the universe does not revolve around her.
